Root canal treatment
What is RCT?
Root canal is a simple and absolutely conservative procedure to repair and save a badly damaged, carious or infected tooth instead of removing it. The term ‘root canal ’comes from cleaning of the canals inside a tooth’s root. if you have a severe toothache/ severe sensitivity/ any swelling in your gum or extra oral swelling, you might have decay or fracture that has involved the nerve of the tooth. To treat this condition, we need to perform root canal treatment to give you relief from the pain. During the procedure, we remove the carious or decayed part and create an access in your tooth to reach the infected root canal and nerve. Then, we remove the infection and clean the area. Next, we fill the inside of the canal with a gutta-percha compound. Finally, a filling followed by a dental crown is placed atop the tooth to protect it while it heals.

Our process

Regular root canal treatment – usually we complete the treatment in two sitting with interval of 4 to 5 days in between. If the tooth is severely infected with pus formation, then it might take one extra sitting to complete.
Single sitting root canal treatment – With our advancement in dentistry and all the latest technologies root canal treatment can be completed in a single sitting. But it depends on the severity of infection which can be finalized after detailed radiographic evaluation of that diseased tooth. It will take one to one and half hour to complete the single sitting root canal treatment. After completion of single sitting root canal, we give one week time to heal the tooth completely. Finally, after a week crown placement is done.
Re Root Canal Treatment – It is required when the root canal treatment has been done elsewhere but failed or not done properly causing recurring pain and infection. We complete RE RCT in 2 to 3 sittings.

With proper hygiene practice patients can prevent the chances of reinfections. We teach our patients how to maintain good oral hygiene and suggest them to go for a dental scaling in every 6 months. Negligence in maintaining oral care can lead to reinfection.
Don’t chew very hard food until the crown is placed. Don’t delay the crown placement once the rct is completed. More delay can cause fracture of the tooth structure.
